Automated Christianity

Automated Christianity

I have shared this before, but I truly enjoy doing dishes by hand.  The warm water is relaxing, it reminds me of doing dishes with my brothers, and I believe the dishes are cleaner. I have a regular drainboard that sits on the counter, but usually I use the dishwasher as a drainboard. It is spacious and I can close the door and don’t have to see them while they dry.  Putting them away is one of the jobs the children do….

A Case For The “Buts”

A Case For The “Buts”

A very good friend and mentor of mine is a foster parent.  She currently has eight boys in her home under the age of 15. She has often talked to me about becoming a foster parent and I always had a list of “buts” for her.  I’m sure she felt the same way I feel when someone tells me they could NEVER homeschool their children.  I almost always ended our conversations about fostering with, “I could NEVER let them go!”…

Not My Co-Pilot

Not My Co-Pilot

While driving to work, in the fast lane of three lanes, I noticed a bumper sticker on the car in front of me.  It read, “God is my co-pilot”.   Here are my speed rules when driving on a 3-lane roadway.  The slow lane is for those doing the speed limit and under. The middle lane is for those doing the speed limit and up to five mph over.  The passing lane is for those that are pretending to…

Breaking Bread

Breaking Bread

My husband, Mark, and I love to feed people. Maybe it is because we really love being in the kitchen together. We laugh, flirt, and talk about life and silly stuff. It is no wonder when there is a party to be had, it usually ends up at our home. Our home and kitchen is open to whomever needs it. About a month ago, there was an amateur boxing match in the area. Since our son is taking boxing lessons,…

God and Gutters

God and Gutters

Some friends of ours needed to borrow a pair of tin snips so they could make a few cuts to fix some gutters on their home. The wife turned to Facebook asking if anyone had a pair? My husband let them know that they could borrow his. Truth be told, he probably has several pairs. When he said something to me, much to his surprise, I busted out laughing. I told him to read *Sarah’s post again. Sarah misspelled a…

I Wasn’t Expecting That

I Wasn’t Expecting That

If you have children then you know the amount of noise that can come from the backseat of your car. Often it is annoying because someone is looking at someone back there, breathing their air, or crossing the invisible line separating them. A lot of the time I get to hear my children worshiping along with the radio. I love hearing them sing and am often amazed at how well they know the words and melody of so many songs….

In His Image

In His Image

Throughout my life, I have often heard myself say something like, “Oh, I could never do….” or “No, that just isn’t in my nature to do.” Sometimes, I have even said, “I will never…”. I have heard many others say these things. We say these things when we see or hear of others doing them. I have a friend that is an amazing artist. Her paintings take my breath away, awaken my soul, and take my thoughts to peaceful places….

Blooming in the Dark

Blooming in the Dark

I am not a big fan of roses. They seem to die so quickly and there are the thorns to contend with. So, I was a little surprised when my husband bought me a miniature rose bush for Valentine’s Day this year. It was a tiny potted rose plant with a single bloom on it. Two days after receiving the rose, it began to die…rapidly. This rose was in serious need of some TLC. I love gardening and growing things,…

Mother’s Day and God

Mother’s Day and God

I was standing at the customer service counter, when a young, scrawny boy came running up with a dozen roses in his hand. “Can you ring me up real quick? I told my mom I was running to the car for my phone. I only have a couple minutes.” He handed me a soggy, wadded up $20 bill and I quickly rang him up as another staff helped me hide his prized gift so his mom would not see it….

Not My Desert

Not My Desert

Recently, I was messaging with my niece about our walk of faith.  She shared some concerns and fears. Then she said something that really made me think. She said she wanted to be used by God like Moses was. Wow!!!  That is some serious wanting right there. I don’t even want to walk around Walmart with two hungry kids, let alone 40 years in a desert with a ton of whiny Israelites. Can you imagine trying to keep a million…
