Storing Up Treasure

Storing Up Treasure

Two Minutes of Thought:

Matthew 6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

What are theses treasures this scripture is talking about?

Our homes and cars will not go to heaven. You can’t take your Gen 2 Glock 19, as sweet as it is, to heaven. Since heaven is for souls, shouldn’t we be investing in people, more than anything else?

During a 5-day revival in 1973, over 3.2 million people attended a Billy Graham Crusade in South Korea. Over 1 million traveled by foot to the final service. It is said that 75,000 people made a decision for Christ during those 5 days. Now, that is some storing up!

We tend to want those grand moments, those moments that people talk about over 40 years later.  I may never lead 75,000 people to Jesus in a mere 5 days. The fact is, I haven’t been asked to. I am NOT Billy Graham and I was not called to be Billy Graham. I was called to be me. Right here, in my little town, with my family and friends, doing what God gifted me to do: I will invest in people. I will not do it through preaching from a stage. I will do it through writing, listening, encouraging, teaching, and praying.

Here are some suggestions on how to start storing up treasures:
1. Put down the phone and turn off the TV.
2. Talk to people. Sincerely ask your spouse, child, or cashier how he/she is doing.
3. Encourage someone, anyone.
4. Before pointing out someone’s weakness, point out their strengths.
5. Pray with someone, regardless of where you are. Stop and pray.
6. Stop wanting to see the bloom and just plant the seed.
7. Share His Word after you have proved yours.

According to Huffington Post, there are nearly 33,000,000 storage units in the U.S.. The Self Storage Industry brings in over 22 billion dollars a year. I would say we have invested in enough “stuff”, let’s start investing in people.
